WHEN the Council of the N.A.M.H. met in April, 1961, it debated whether, now that the Mental Health Review Tribunals were beginning to review cases, it might be profitable for some research to be undertaken to establish what happened to patients discharged by the Tribunals. The General Secretary wrote on April 24th, 1961, expressing the strong opinion of Council that 'this new procedure, which is only just coming into operation, should be studied scientifically from its inception'.
